How to Work With Layers and Groups

Layers are the editable parts of a template, and can be edited, arranged, and grouped in the Template Layers panel.

Select and edit layers

  1. Select a layer on the canvas or in the layer list.
  2. Expand its layer panel.
  3. Change the available geometry, style, data, text, image, or graphic controls.
  4. Preview the result and save the template when finished.

Use Shift while selecting when the current tool supports multiple selection. Command+A on macOS or Control+A on Windows and Linux selects all editable layers.

Arrange layers

  • Drag a layer in the list or use the arrange controls to change its draw order.
  • Send backward or bring forward moves it one position.
  • Send to back or bring to front moves it to the end of the current ordering scope.
  • Lock prevents accidental canvas changes.
  • Visibility hides a layer without deleting it.
  • Duplicate creates an independent copy.
  • Delete removes the selected layer.

Use groups

  1. Select two or more layers while holding the shift key.
  2. Choose the group action, or press Command+G on macOS or Control+G on Windows and Linux.
  3. Move, rename, or organize the group as needed.
  4. Ungroup when the layers need to be edited separately.
